How many times have you been stranded in Anjuna, or Calangute or Baga, in Goa, after a fantastic party, thanks to your inability to find a cab, or at least find a mode of transport that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?
Well, as reported by the Times of India, Tourism Minister Manohar Azgaonkar has announced that the Goa Tourism Development Corporation’s (GTDC) taxi-app, called “Goamiles” will be launched next month.
Citizens and tourists looking for transport will be relieved. Around 2,800 licensed taxi drivers have already expressed interest towards the app, which is in its final stages of testing.

The GTDC plans to carry out a public information campaign, to create awareness about the app. While GTDC Chairman, Nilesh Cabral, hopes to reach out to a million people in Goa, for daily commutes and tourism, Azgaonkar is optimistic and said the service will revolutionise the transportation system for cab drivers, tourists and locals in Goa. He hopes that taxi drivers across the state sign up on the platform.
Drivers will be given basic courses in etiquette, knowledge of tourist places, basic first aid and knowledge of Goan cultures and traditions. Drivers and family members may get health insurance and scholarship schemes as well.
